Background, Objectives and Outcome

In ERCOFTAC, the various scientific and engineering fluid dynamic modelling and simulation processes that underpin the Oil, Gas and Petroleum (O, G and Pet) industry are in place. Our objectives through the 2015 seminar, is to harness these processes and present a two day seminar with a main focus on Oil & Gas Best Practice and Technology Trends CFD. The seminar will capture the industrial, and the academic view. Therefore, the presentations are based around the challenges , current and prospective solutions, as faced by the oil companies, the solution providers, the commercial CFD houses, and academia, in the production and transportation of hydrocarbon fuels in an efficient and reliable manner, under a health and safety framework.

Thus, how accurate, reliable, efficient and trustworthy are CFD calculations, in aiding O&G services to continuously extract more value out of their operations, such as deep water extraction, when the sector is experiencing an ever tighter regulatory carbon environment. Yet, when considering that the level of energy demand in 2050 will be such that it will require similar levels of oil and gas production as today, then we see how critical is modelling and simulation, in particular CFD and CFD-FEA!

A main outcome of the seminar is the creation of an Oil, Gas and Petroleum Special Interest Group(SIG) whose purpose is to maintain a leading and up to date agenda on the topic.
