1st Summer School on
Global Flow Instability Computations

September 22 - 25, 2015

Creta Maris, Hersonissos, Crete, GR

Recent educational events, such as past editions of the Advanced Instability Methods - Education (AIM-ed) Summer Schools, held in Cambridge, UK (2011), in Stockholm, SE (2013), and in Sao Leopoldo, BR (2014), or the VKI Lecture Series on Progress in Flow Instability Analysis and Laminar-Turbulent Transition Modeling in Brussels, BE (2014), have clearly identified the need to respond to the question on how to compute linear modal and/or non-modal BiGlobal and TriGlobal flow instabilities from the incompressible to the hypersonic regime.
Leading practitioners in the field have decided to offer a Summer School dedicated to Global Instability Computations prior to the 6th edition of the Crete Symposium. In alphabetical order, the following persons and members of their teams will discuss solution methods based on algorithms developed and/or used in their respective groups:
  • H. M. B l a c k b u r n and teamTime-stepping using semtex
  • P. F. F i s c h e r and teamTime-stepping using nek5000
  • P. L u c h i n i and F. G i a n n e t t iTime-stepping using FD and matrix-forming using FreeFEM
  • S. J. S h e r w i n and Ch. C a n t w e l lTime-stepping using nektar++
  • V. T h e o f i l i s and teamMatrix-forming using spectral collocation and high-order FD
A four-day event has been planned based on theoretical sessions and hands-on practice on the students' own computers. The course contents are currently under development and material will appear linked to this page prior to the school. In this manner, school participants will have the possibility to familiarize themselves with the exercises ahead of time and optimize their preparation for what is expected to be an intense learning event.
