Purpose and focus of the Pilot Centre

The UK Pilot Centre for ERCOFTAC is run by the UK Fluids Network (UKFN).

At the heart of UKFN is a set of 39 Special Interest Groups, many of which overlap with the ERCOFTAC SIGs. More than 900 academics are involved in the UKFN SIGs, distributed around the UK at over 60 institutions.

UKFN also runs a Short Research Visit scheme, funding visits of around a week by any UK fluid mechanics researcher to another UK researcher or group. There have been 64 SRVs funded so far, covering a wide range of experimental, modelling and numerical development topics.

Fluids researchers can also participate by:

  • joining the more than 1500-strong mailing list, to receive the weekly and monthly newsletters (enter your email address at the bottom of any page on the website);
  • and registering as a user and entering your details, including your research interests, areas of application and favoured techniques (go to the Login link at the top-right corner of the home page).

Registered users automatically appear on the Directory page, a searchable database of UK fluids researchers.

As UK Pilot Centre, UKFN will continue to promote ERCOFTAC, by
